Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Identify and scope the requirements of the work instructions and SOPs
  • Develop or select format according to workplace requirements
  • Identify individual tasks and responsibilities to be covered
  • Determine the sequence of tasks to ensure efficiency is achieved
  • Plan the sequencing of information to ensure consistency with current or desired performance
  • Identify regulatory and customer requirements
       
Element: Write work instruction or SOP
  • Ensure work instruction or SOP identifies key roles and responsibilities
  • Prepare document using formatting and language consistent with workplace procedures
  • Include corrective actions and/or critical control points in the documentation
  • Include relevant safe work practices and hygiene requirements
  • Include visuals to demonstrate practical tasks or specific detail
  • Implement document version control procedures
       
Element: Validate work instruction or SOP
  • Test written document for consistency with overarching plans or requirements and check that it supports workplace performance
  • Trial written document with personnel to confirm work tasks are accurately specified, clear and use appropriate language
  • Ensure written document addresses workplace health and safety, hygiene and regulatory requirements
  • Amend written document, as necessary, based on feedback from validation activities
  • Check images and diagrams for accuracy and conformance to workplace and regulatory requirements

  • Develop plan for implementation, and communicate the details to appropriate personnel

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
